The genealogy chart77 prepared by George S Veazie has Laura Veazie married to John "Hoyt," with a son Gust H Hoyt married to Ida Lynaham. Records since found indicate his last name was spelled "Hout."
The 1900, 1910 and 1920 census records are consistent with regard to the birth places for his parents: father born New Jersey; mother born Pennsylvania. From that information, it seems probable that he is the John Hout, age 2, that appears4849 in the 1860 census for Poland, Ohio, in the family of Aaron Hout, age 29, born New Jersey; and Persina Hout, age 26, born Pennsylvania.
The 1900 census4842 for Parkersburg, WV, lists information that conflicts with other data for John and Laura. In that record, John and wife "Lavina E." are listed as married just 2 years, the second marriage for both. However, their birth dates and places, and the information for son Gusta Hout, who appears as their son, is consistent with other information. E.g., the birthplaces for his parents, etc., are consistent, as well as his occupation as "oil land leaser." It is assumed that "Lavina E" is, in fact, Laura E. (Veazie).
In 1910, John S and Laura Hout resided4845 in Bartlesville, OK, where John was an oil producer. In 1914, John S Hout (wife Laura) appears1735 in the Tulsa, OK, city directory, listed as "oil," residence 608 N Cheyenne Ave. In 1920, John S and Laura Hout resided4844 in Lexington, Kentucky, where John was an oil producer for an oil company.
The Jan, 1929, obituary4848 for wife Laura Hout mentions that her husband died "two years ago" in Texas. In fact, John died2997 on Jul 18, 1927, in Bexar Co., Texas.
The 1888 obituary3327 of Laura's father mentions a surviving daughter, "Mrs J S Hout, of Washington, PA."
In 1920, Laura Hout, wife of John Hout, is listed4844 as age 31. If that is perhaps 51, the age matches information for Laura Veazie. Further, the obituary4823 for Laura's mother, Rocelia (Bowman) Veazie mentions a surviving daughter [Mrs] J. S. Hout of Lexington, Kentucky.
The obituary4848 for Mrs Laura Hout, published in Joplin, MO, from information provided by Laura's sister, Mrs Nettie Healy, states Laura died Jan 29, 1929, in San Antonio, TX. Mrs Hout was a member of the First Baptist church when she lived in Joplin. Besides Laura's sister, she was survived by a son, Gusta Hout of Los Angeles, Calif.
A death certificate4846 for Laura E. Hout, a practical nurse who died Jan 29, 1929, in San Antonio, TX, of toxemia, has her date of birth Aug 27, 1868. She was a widow, and only "Personal Effects" is listed for the Informant. Her birthplace is listed as New York, and name of father "? Beagle," apparently a mistaken interpretation of Veazie from, perhaps, some written document. Her residence at the time of her death was 1720 Buena Vista St.
