Edgar was variously chief of police, sheriff and marshall in and around Goshen, Indiana. However, in 1915, he pleaded guilty2089 to extortion in the levying and collecting of fees in police courts. As a result, he was fined $25 and sentenced to five days in jail.
His obituary4601 states he died at 11:30AM at his home, 310 North Main Street (Goshen, IN). As he had suffered for several months with hardening of the arteries, Bright's disease, and high blood pressure, his death was expected. As a result of his illness, he had been compelled, early the previous fall, to abandon his taxi line business. Edgar was a Mason, and a member of the First Reformer Church.
Following Edgar's death, the Goshen Daily Democrat, May 26, 1920, printed a card of thanks for kindnesses extended during the illness and death of Edgar J Vesey from Martha Vesey & son, Victor Vesey. (also) Lloyd, Onello B., Richard, Vernon, Mabel and Irene Vesey.
Fanny married first, in 1882, Edgar J Vesey. Fannie filed suit4599 for divorce from Edgar, on grounds of cruel and inhuman treatment, and violation of marriage vows. Fannie and Edgar had separated on Nov 1, and, on Nov 11, 1904, Fannie was granted a divorce4598 from Edgar. She married second1523, in 1906, Edgar's brother Henry C Vesey. In Oct, 1915, Edgar Vesey filed a petition4598 for the release from divorce payments to Fannie, on the grounds that their oldest child was then 16 years of age, and his only source of income was as "city marshal," which term would expire on Jan 1.
In 1910, Fannie is listed2090 as the mother of 10, 6 now living. Only eight of those ten can be identified.
Interestingly, a marriage listing2072 has Fannie Vesey (fath John E Reist, moth Sophia Wagner) married 26 Nov 1922 in Elkhart Co., Indiana, Simon W Cripe, b 2 Dec 1861, the son of David B Cripe and Barbara Weaver. However, in 1930 is listed2093 Fanny Vesey, correct birth and parentage, a widow, living at 617 Fifth St in Goshen, IN, the same address at which she and Henry were living in 1920.

The Goshen (IN) Times, Feb 28, 1889, reported that the infant son of Mr and Mrs Edgar J Vesey, of North Fifth St, died at 1 o'clock that day of inflammation of the brain, aged 22 months.

The 1920 obituary4601 of Edgar Vesey mentions surviving daughter Irene Vesey "of Detroit." The obituary3158 for her brother Lloyd Vesey mentions surviving sister "Mrs. Irene Ewing, Pasadena, Calif." Irene92 Nancy527 Ewing died Jan 3, 1969, in Pasadena, CA.

The Goshen Daily Democrat4597 reported that an infant of Mr and Mrs Edgar Vesey, "of the North Side," died Oct 4, 1901. The birth date is estimated from the phrase "infant" and the date.
