Elva's parents are identified 1) Viola "Hywitt", mother, is living with Elva and Walter in 1900. In 1870, Walter was living in Chillicothe, MO. That same year, in the same place, Elva Hewit, age 17, was living in the household of William and Viola H Hewit. Elva's maiden name is also listed on son Carl's death2387 certificate.
tab A Dec, 1875, newspaper clipping4185 mentions: "Mrs. Viola Hewitt, wife of the late William R. Hewitt, who went from this place to Chilicothe, Mo., some ten years ago, is spending the winter with Westfield friends." His death is estimated as between 1870, when he appears in the census for Chilicothe, MO, and this 1875 clipping.
Viola's maiden name is assumed from a Sep 5, 1917, newspaper clipping4182 which relates that an announcement had been received by "Miss Hewitt" of the marriage of Doctor Watler B Veazie of Columbia University, New York City to Miss Orpha D Mitchel of Franklin, Pa. Further, the papers states, Doctor Veazie is a grand son of William Hewitt and Viola Hall Hewett[sic], formerly of this place.
