Stewart⁸²⁸, in "Pioneer Women of Perry (OH)" mentions "Rowena (Colwell)" as one of several daughters of (Mrs Benjamin) Eunice Lamb Vesey. In 1850, Roena Colwell, b ~1806 in Vermont, is listed²⁹⁰² with William Colwell and 3 children. In addition, Rowena's sister Vashti (Vesey) Herrick, is listed²⁹⁰³ in William and Rowena's household in the 1860 census. The marriage date is a guess based on the date of her father's will⁵³³⁶ in which Benjamin Vesey made a bequeathal to "Roena Calwell".

The locations listed for William Colwell prior to 1850 are based on the birthdates and birthplaces for children Horace, William and Rowena.
