George and Rebecca were married by B H Curtis. Their license was recorded 6 Apr. The month of their date of marriage may be a mistranscription of "Aug" as Rebecca Teele and children resided2905 in the dwelling adjacent to George Veasy and children in 1860; that census record was enumerated 12 June 1860, and there is no indication in that record that George and Rebecca were married.
George is assumed to have been born in Braintree, VT, as Bass831 has his father resident there between 1785 and 1815.
Hillman800 states George W Vesey is listed in the will of Benjamin Vesey (Geauga Co. OH Probate), though George's mother is not identified. Until further information is available, his mother is given herein as Eunice Lamb, Benjamin's second wife.
Among many probate records for George W Vesey is a request4952 by Rebecca Vesey, stating that she is the widow of George W Vesey; that he "departed this life" in Saint Joseph County, Indiana, she believes on the 8th day of May A.D. 1887; that she relinquishes her right to administer his estate; and requests that John Dixon be appointed administrator. Dated 30 May 1887, Rebecca Vesey.
A monument840 in Noffsinger Cem., Elkhart Co., IN, reads "George W Vesey / Died / May 8 1887 / Aged 75 Ys 8M 18Ds." His birth date is calculated from that information.
Memoirs of Indiana5314 states that George Vesey emigrated to Penn township in 1847, buying 160 acres were he established a home.
Though the marriage record2072 for George Vesey and Rebecca Teal doesn't indicate that Rebecca had been married previously, Rebecca Teal (head of household) appears2902 in the 1850 census, enumerated Oct 3, two dwellings from George W Veasy in Penn Township. She is listed as age 36 (born ~1814), born in Ohio. In her household are 4 children, the oldest age 12, and the youngest 1 month of age. Also residing in her household are Jacob and Elizabeth "Byrkitt," both born North Carolina. In 1860, Rebecca Teele resided2905 adjacent to George Veazy. Residing with Rebecca were three of the children listed in her 1850 household.
Cemetery records{\5317} for the Teel/Skinner cemetery in Penn Twp, St Joseph Co., IN, list: Teel, William; born 2 Feb 1808, Ohio, died 23 Mar 1850; married Rebecca Burkit 8 May 1834. The Indiana State Library5318 provides similar marriage information: William Tell (Tell or Teel) and Rebecca Byrkit, marriage 5/8/1834, St Joseph County.
In 1880, George and Rebecca Vesey appear3179 as husband and wife. Rebecca was age 66 (born ~1814), born in Ohio; her parents are listed as both born in North Carolina.
From that information, it is assumed that the second wife of George Vesey was Rebecca Byrkit(t), born about 1814 in Ohio, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Byrkit, both born North Carolina.
