In 1850, Adam, residing with Nancy and seven children, is listed as a butcher, In 1859, Adam Hardwick, a butcher, married, died in Cohasset at the age of 54y 9d.

His brother Thomas P G Hardwick stated4521 in an 1865 affidavit that Adam's widow was then living in Cohasset, Massachusetts, and provided a list of their children and residences as follows: Charles, of New Haven, Conn.; Lemuel, then in Kansas; George in California; William and Susan, of Cohasset; Samuel of Scituate; and Abby Ann, wife of John Harrington, of Weymoth.

Following Adam's death, at the age of 50, Nancy married second in Hingham, MA, Aug 7, 1862, Joseph White Fish., age 24. a shoemaker from Marshfield, the son of Rufus and Joanna (White) Fish, his first marriage. That marriage record lists her name as "Nancy Nichols (m.n. Joy) Hardwick." Her parents are listed as "Asa & Nancy Nichols (m.n. Joy) Hardwick," an error by the clerk as Nancy was the daughter of Asa Joy and Nancy Nichols. Nancy Fish died at the age of 86y 10m 1d. Her birthdate is calculated from that information.

Nancy is mentioned as Adam Hardwick's "widow now living in Cohasset in this state," in an 1865 affidavit by Thomas Hardwick, Adam's brother.

Samuel is mentioned in an 1865 affidavit4521 by his uncle Thomas Hardwick as "of Scituate."

Child 2. Lemuel

Lemuel's middle initial is listed1774 in his death record. In 1850, he resided2921 with his parents. Lemuel is mentioned in an 1865 affidavit4521 by his uncle Thomas Hardwick as "now in Kansas." Lemuel died1774 at the age of 58y 10m 17d of dropsy. At the time of his death, he was a butcher, and was married.

Child 3. Charles

In 1855, Charles A Hardwick is listed as a machinist. Thomas Hardwick, Charles' uncle, mentions Charles in an 1865 affidavit4521 as one of the children of Adam Hardwick, "of New Haven, Conn."

Child 4. Sarah

Sarah V Hardwick was born2919 to Adam and Nancy Hardwick. A child of Adam Hardwick, Jr, died{/2920} May 12, 1838. Though no name is given in the death record, Sarah is assumed to be that child as: Sarah does not appear in the 1850 census, the 1840 census for Adam Hardwick in Cohasset, MA, lists no females under the age of 20, and other children born before 1838 otherwise appear after that year.

A list of births2919 in Cohasset, MA, for the family of Adam and Nancy Hardwick, mentions a son George, but provides no birth date. George appears in the 1850 census2921 in the household of Adam and Nancy, age 11. He appears in the 1855 census2923 as George H, age 15. George may be the George Hardwick, age 20, a miner born in Massachusetts, listed in the 1860 for Twp 5, Amador Co., CA. In an 1865 affidavit4521, George's uncle Thomas Hardwick, mentions George only as "in California."

Child 6. Henry

In 1865, Henry is listed as a solider. In 1870, a Henry Hardwick, a 28 year old farm hand born in Massachusetts, appears with wife Martha in Barry, IL.

Henry died at the age of 27d.

A daughter of Adam and Nancy died Sep 11, 1848, at the age of 15d.

Child 10. Susan

Susan's uncle Thomas P G Hardwick stated4521 in an 1865 affidavit that Susan was unmarried, living in Cohasset.

William is mentioned in an 1865 affidavit4521 by his uncle Thomas Hardwick as "of Cohasset."
