Family of David SEASE and Esther KNIGHT

David SEASE b. 1788~4058 at Orange Co., NY4060. d. 1876 Mar 274058 at Brooklyn, NY4059.
Esther KNIGHT d. 1850 bef1231.

Married2522. David Sease and Esther Knight are listed2522 as the parents of Caroline Sease. The death certificate3457 for Caroline S Barclay lists her father's name as David Sease. The 1855 NY state census2656 for Crawford lists the birthplace for Caroline Barkley', age 38 (born abt 1817}, as Orange County. From this information, it is assumed that Caroline, the wife of Gaston Barkley, was born Caroline Sease, daughter of David and Esther (Knight) Sease.

David's last name sometimes appears in transcribed records as "Lease," as a script S is often mistranscribed as L. E.g., one death index entry4059 lists him as David Lease (sic).

David lived on and worked a farm near Searsville for most of his life. About a year before his death, he apparently began living, presumably with his son, in Brooklyn, NY, where he died.

The Daily Albany (NY) Argus, Nov 1, 1837, reports that David Sease, of Crawford, was nominated for sheriff, presumably as a Democrat as his obituary4058 states he was a Democrat "of the old school.". That obituary states David was elected Sheriff in 1848 and served as such for 3 years, after which he served another term as deputy at Newburgh for Sheriff Adam H Sinsabaugh, who had been his own deputy. David also served as Justice of the Peace and town clerk in Crawford for twenty years.

David married second Barbara Mitty, of New Jersey. David and Barbara appear in the 1850 census. In 1865, David is listed4060 as married twice. Barbara is listed as married once, and born in New Jersey. Barbara's maiden name is assumed from David's will4047 which mentions his "wife Barbary Mitty" in a bequeathal.

Barbara Sease, wife of David Sease, died840 Nov 2, 1869, at the age of 70y 9m, and is buried in Hopewell Church Cem., Pine Bush, NY.

Esther apparently died sometime prior to 1850, as David Sease appears in the 1850 census1231 with wife Barbara M ---.
