The Oshkosh (WI) Daily Northwestern, Sep 1, 1937, mentioned that Arnold Miles, assistant director of the American Municipal Association, would be a speaker at the 39th annual convention of the League of Wisconsin Municipalites in Fond du Lac.

In 1940, Arnold, wife Alice and son Michael resided2114 in Chicago. He was an environmental? Researcher for "Am. Municipal Association." Arnold published several articles and papers regarding subjects such as municipal insurance, how police catch criminals, and the impact of airports on municipalites.

He and his family moved to Washington, DC, where he worked the rest of his life as an adviser in and for government organizations. Arnold's obituary4878, which appears in papers throughout the country, describes him as a government organizer. At the time of his death he was head of the budget bureau's government organization branch. He was a specialist on government organization and administration, and had a hand in the 1947 creation of the Department of Defense and unification of the armed services. He advised the Hoover Commission on reorganization of the government, 1947 - 1949. He died at the age of 48 of lung cancer at George Washington Univsersity Hospital.

From that information, her parents and grandparents are identified from the obituary4880 of her uncle Harrington John Beamish, and the obituary4879 of her father, Thomas W Morrissy. Her uncle's obituary mentions that Harrington was the son of John and Alice Beamish, and Harrington left a surviving sister, Mrs Tessa Morrissy of Elkhorn. The obituary of Thomas W Morrissy mentions that he was the son of John M and Elizabeth O Connor Morrissy, and among his survivors were his wife Tessa and a daughter Mrs Alice Miles (Washington, DC).

In the Elkhorn column of the Janesville (WI) Daily Gazette, Apr 4, 1953 (newspapers.com), it was reported that Mrs T W Morrissy had returned home after visiting her daughter, Mrs Arnold Miles, in Washington, DC. Mrs Morrissy's 9 year old granddaughter, Margaret Miles, returned with her to remain for the summer.

The Chevy-Chase (MD) Historical Society (www.chevychasehistory.org/about-exhibit-3), in the credits regarding the Cummings Farm, has "Many thanks to Margaret Miles Ayres who introduced CCHS to her cousins, Barbara Miles and Mary Miles Patten. Barbara and Mary gave us copies of childhood photos taken in the 1950s and 60s, when they lived in the old Cummings farmhouse." From that, it is assumed that Margaret Miles married (unknown) Ayres.
