Married1220. At the time of his untimely death, Donald McGowan was engaged to Lethia Murray. They were never married.

Second Lt. Donald Paul McGowan was killed1220 in August of 1943, on a training mission aboard a B-26 Army plane near Dodge City airfield. Just nine days earlier, his mother had pinned his "wings" on him at a ceremony in Lubbock, Texas, at his commissioning as an Army Air Corps officer and pilot.

On April 3 of the previous year (1942), Don had enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was called up on August 19, and was sent to Nashville, Tennessee. From there, he went to San Antonio where he completed his pre-flight course. Later in 1942, at Christmas, he and Leithia Murray of Coopers Plains, announced their engagement to be married. They were never married.

Lethia apparently had been a friend of the family previously, as she attended the McGowan family reunion6009 in Coopers Plains, NY, in 1938.
