Married587 1831 Nov 6587 at (prob) East Hampton, CT587. Florilla and Joseph, listed as "both of East Hampton," were married587 by Rev. Timothy Stone, of East Hampton. The location for their marriage is assumed from that information. Connecticut Marriagse4383 has the marriage date Dec 28, 1831. The reason for the discrepancy between the dates of the two cited references isn't clear. Both references are transciptions, but Barbour is preferred.

Joseph appears in records variously as Joseph N Goff, Nelson J Goff, and J Nelson Goff. Joseph was a bell manufacturer, perhaps quite successful as his personal and real estate values850 in 1870 are listed as $10,000 and $11,000 respectively.

The Classic Bells website (http://classicbells.com/Info/bellMakers.html), under "East Hampton, Connecticut: Other makers," lists manufacturers J N Goff and Amiel Abel ("G & A" maker's mark on petal bells); J N Goff, Amiel Abel, and Alfred Williams ("G. A. & W." maker's mark on petal bells, 1837-1851); J N Goff, Amiel Abel, and Charles Buell; and East Hampton Bell Company (formed by J N Goff, Amiel Abell, J S Hall, D W Watrous and G S Goff, possibly in 1851). In 1860, the Goff household was listed849 next to the household of Amial Aable(sic).

In 1880, John(sic) N Goff, is listed as a farmer. Son George, "bell manufacturer," and George's wife Emma B resided in his household.
